Mexican Mask
Guerrero State, the United Mexican States. 1990s? A variety of masks are used for performing arts in Mexican festivals. They use “the Devil” not only to play the role of the Devil in Christian poetic justice, but also as a clown in diverse scenes. Probably they originate in ritual masks of the Mesoamerican
Civilization and fused with the Catholic dogma after the Spanish conquest.

(IMTF_UT0000073)
Balance
Made by Shimadzu Seisakusho Ltd. Kyoto, Japan. Shimadzu has produced balances since 1918. Natural science is a history of precision measurement. This type of balance was one of the most precise and sensitive equipment in those days, and every mechanism was carefully designed in order to eliminate measurement errors and disturbances.

(Pernis ptilorhynchus)
(IMTAc_OT0001037)
Oriental Honey-buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus)
A migrant raptor breeds in Japan and winters Southeast Asia. According to the recent studies on migration by satellite tracking, the Japanese population migrates along Chinese coast via Koshikijima Islands in Japan. Their main food habit in breeding season is larvae and pupa of hornets or wasps. They can even dig up and prey on burrowing nests of wasp. The name indicates this remarkable food habit.

Fossil Fishes
Brazil, Cretaceous
Brazil is renowned for the world’s largest locality of fossil fishes. Fish bodies are extremely well preserved with complete arrangement of scales and fins. Some localities in Brazil yield exceptional fossil fishes retaining three-dimensional morphology. Fossils from Brazil indicates South America and Africa was once a single land mass, supporting the theory of continental drift. All fossils are now protected in Brazil, and new materials are difficult to obtain.
