Greater bird of paradise
Passeriformes, Paradisaeidae
Males of The Bird of Paradise have elegant display feathers to attract females. These spraying feathers are actually extended flank feathers. The feathers were in favor with European fashion, so many birds were hunted and exported with legs removed because legs were obstacle for packing. Therefore they believed that this species didn’t have legs and flying all through the life. The scientific name Paradisaea apoda means “ No legged paradise”. Now this species is fully protected by the Washington treaty.

Aepyornith egg (replica)
Struthioniformes, Aepironithidae.
Aepyornith, the Elephant Bird, had walked on Madagascar Island, but had extinct already in uncertain period. It was the heaviest bird, 450kg in estimation, and also bred largest egg among all animals ever lived. The volume of an egg was seven to nine litters, therefore about 180times as large as a chicken egg. The length of this egg specimen is 34cm, largest one among Aepyornith eggs. The original specimen was restored by assembling the egg-shell fragments.

Black coral
The entire form is plant-like, but taxonomically this species belongs to a group of marine animals (phylum Cnidaria, class Anthozoa). This specimen was collected from the Philippines, and huge complete specimen like this is hardly obtainable. In the living condition it attaches to the rock surface and covered with a colony of polyps.

Model of the cattle stomach
Paper model of the cattle stomach. It is not the scale-downed real model, but the material for education to explain the form and function of the stomach. The cattle stomach consists of the four compartments, including rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum. Each compartment is equipped with the functional-morphologically specialized wall for different digestive functions. The wall of each compartment is partially removed to show fine-molded internal structure.

Models of the domesticated cattle
Plaster models of the cattle on the scale of 1:6 by Max Landsberg in Berlin. The models are scale-downed from the real individuals maintained in The Free University of Berlin. Because the education of zoology and animal husbandry in Japan was influenced by German, these high-quality animal models for education were introduced from Berlin in the Meiji Era. The three breeds of Jersey, Shorthorn and Simmenthal can be morphologically compared.
