Precious coral
The word coral indicates cnidarian animals forming hard skeletons. Among them species used for jewelry are called precious corals. Their animal consists of a colony of numerous polyps and covers a hard skeleton of calcium carbonate. The skeleton with branches is beautifully red in color. Most species inhabit rocky bottoms in deep water.

Straight Line Mechanism
An oscillating slider crank mechanism tracing an approximate straight line with the right end of the slider link at a fixed distance from the joint with the crank link. The curve traced by the slider link is similar to that of a conchoid with the slider as the pivot point and the circle generated by the crank joint on the slider line as the canon curve. Several types of models have been made, one of which was manufactured by I. Schröder in Darmstadt, Germany.

Melo umbilicatus (Broderip in Sowerby, 1826)
The shell is greatly swollen and attains more than 30 cm in height. The animal is large and extended to cover the shell and lacks an operculum. This species is carnivorous and deposits eggs in egg capsules after internal fertilization. The habitat is shallow sandy bottoms in the tropical western Pacific. The scientific name indicates a melon-shaped shell with an apical depression.

Skeleton
The skeleton of the false killer whale, Pseudorca crassidens, from an individual maintained in the aquarium. The false killer whale is one of the middle-sized cetaceans distributed in warmer seas in the world. The body length of the species reaches 4-5 m. The skull is rostro-caudally short and bilaterally wide. The short teeth similar to those of the killer whale can be observed.
