Koji TAKAYAMA
I am studying plant systematics and evolution. My research interests are evolutionary process and speciation that have led to the current distribution and diversity of plants. I am researching with field investigation and molecular techniques to examine biogeography of mangroves and pan-tropical plants with sea-drifted seeds, which are distributed across extremely wide ranges. I am also conducting taxonomic, phylogenetic and population genetic analyses of endemic plants on oceanic islands (Ogasawara, Ullung, and Juan Fernandez Islands), to understand speciation and diversification process of the plants. In 2007, I participated the investigation of natural environment of Minami-Iwo Island that belongs to the Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands, and conducted plant inventory research for conservation of the oceanic island flora.
