Greetings

We are pleased to present the Mobile Museum Boxes, an output of an international collaborative project entitled “Research on the Utilization of Museum Activities for Education for the Young Generation in the Philippines.” The project has been undertaken by Filipino and Japanese researchers interested in exploring innovative use of museum collections, in association with the National Museum of the Philippines, the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology and the University Museum, the University of Tokyo, supported by the Toyota Foundation, Japan.
The aim of the project is to produce mounted exhibition contents that can “go” beyond the walls of the museum, providing an object-based educational opportunity to various audiences, particularly the young, at each exhibition venue. The project also seeks to develop young people’s interest in the natural and cultural heritage of their local areas by addressing themes relating to a wide range of relevant museum collections.
For the project period 2015-16, the exhibition theme focuses on “The Diversity of Natural History in Mindanao”. Ten Mobile Museum Boxes were fabricated based on comments and suggestions of the academe who work directly or indirectly in the tertiary-level education, both from Manila and Mindanao. Many professionals specializing in natural history and museum design participated in the process of developing the Mobile Museum Boxes. We would like to thank all those who contributed to the realization of the Mobile Museum Boxes – they made our project genuinely inclusive and participatory.
We hope that the Mobile Museum Boxes will stimulate the curiosity and creativity of many people, helping them generate new knowledge.
